Homage – a tribute to Cecil Skotnes

June 2009

Homage - A Tribute to Cecil SkotnesHomage, a portfolio of prints created as a tribute to Cecil Skotnes, will be launched at the Michaelis Gallery, Cape Town on 28 July. Master printmaker, inspired teacher and artist, the late Cecil Skotnes believed that no one with talent should be denied the opportunity to train as an artist. To honour his legacy, the Michaelis School of Fine Art is to establish a scholarship in his name. To this end several artists have contributed work to the Homage portfolio, among them Willie Bester, Norman Catherine, Peter Clarke, William Kentridge, David Koloane, Louis Maqhubela and others. Only 50 portfolios will be available for purchase and all profits will go to the Cecil Skotnes Scholarship.

Homage will be available for viewing at the Michaelis Gallery, Hiddingh campus, 32 – 37 Orange Street, Gardens, Cape Town from 28 July to 21 August. The gallery will be open from 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday. For more information contact Thomas Cartwright at thomas.cartwright@uct.ac.za or call 021 480 7112.
