Legacies of Landscape Exhibition – Michaelis Gallery, 28 July to 21 August

June 2009

Legacies of Landscape Exhibition at the Michaelis Gallery, Cape Town, from 28 July to 21 August is a rare opportunity to view one of the University of Cape Town’s significant art collections. The exhibition of works from the Katrine Harries Print Cabinet showcases a rich range of prints and printmaking techniques by South African and internationally celebrated artists as diverse as Rembrandt, Durer, Pierneef, Mthethwa and Dumas. The exhibition, curated by Cara van der Westhuizen, reveals some of the ways in which artists have represented the landscape and have drawn on its political and historical resonance. Many of the prints have not been previously exhibited, some dating back as far as the 1600s.

Legacies of Landscape will run at the Michaelis Gallery, Hiddingh Campus, 32 – 37 Orange Street, Gardens, Cape Town from 28 July to 21 August. The gallery will be open from 10am to 4pm Tuesday to Saturday. For more information about the exhibition contact curator Cara van der Westhuizen at cara.vanderwesthuizen@uct.ac.za or call 021 480 7112.
